This is a startlingly beautiful show. Up until 17 December 2011. This small Newman made me think of Clifford Still. I recently was reading about Still's metaphor of lightening intrinsic in his paintings. Here in Newman I realized this metaphor is translated into the zip.
This painting "Outcry" was the beginning of Newman's Stations of the Cross paintings. He had just had a heart attack and said that it produced an immediate psychoanalysis.
