Armory Show on the Piers

Good time at this show even though I said 10 years ago I would never go.

A painters worst NIGHTMARE I thought-- to be exhibited in a Gymnasium on movable walls sliding around and me on roller skates!

I feel bit of a rag picker.

Going around to the things that strike me.

Here Amy Sillman and Bill Jensen.

Great Michael Goldberg.

Then just great deKooning and Kline-- just in the smallest snippets worth the whole show.

These are usually at the ADAA show and where I feel an attendee of the Modernist Church.

Figurative Tradition and some surprises.

An Asian painter I'm sorry I neglected to get a name of and a Katz, and Chantal Joffe.

Warhol, Elaine de Konning drawing of Bill!

and a Porter amazing similarities-- there should have been a Hockney around.

Birchfield and a David Bates-- he seems to be pandering to the collector, tightened up in the last years. If the paper as Roberta Smith said would give him some authority we might have another great painter. Contrary to Smith saying he does just fine with out the press he needs it to rise higher.

I like this little painting wish he could get around Hartley.

Betty Parsons, and

and a unnamed painter at French booth.

Betty Parsons

Avery and David Smith, and Bob Thompson and...

Avery and Smith looked good for their line and shape aware of Positive and Negative such a simple thing to say.

I like these Thompson paintings

Not sure looks like J Lawrence but not.

ADAA Fair

After wandering NYC through Bruce High Quality, Whitney Biennial, and Koons curated show at New Museum I was surprisingly rejuvenated by the art at the ADAA show. Though its not as good as past shows it has added a large number of more contemporary galleries.

Nothing much besides the old standbys.

Again a Guston was the best thing there. A bunch of deKoonings also remind one of what art is.

The Ellsworth Kellys and a Newman were good to see.

I saw a nice Johns of the US Map in the night sky and stars, also but no picture.

Strange drawing said to be Gauguin.
