Philip Guston at Hauser and Wirth

First show with new representation.

I am just back from Europe and this came first to mind picking up the track of where I was before I left NY for London.

It is a ground which art today has extended from. There is little of Guston in Europe yet or deKooning.

The Rothko's seeming rather imperial there at the Tate ( they are illusionistic and value oriented but there is a drawing in them very elemental)-- yet I think Guston was after the other Ab Expressionists at the time he made these. And Picasso and not as much Matisse where they also were coming from.

Like Art beginning itself again, routed in Guston's drawing.
